The St Maarten resorts we know and love are in dire straits following Hurricane Irma.

Last week one of our favorite poker sites was devastated by Hurricane Irma. The category 5+ storm ravaged several islands in the Caribbean with winds of 185 miles per hour, ripping off roofs, tearing down homes and filling roads with trees and debris. Sonesta Maho Resort which was supposed to host the WSOPC St Maarten in November had to be closed. The heavily damaged hotel has canceled all bookings. The casino across the street is also badly damaged and closed. The WSOPC is therefore officially cancelled.

Sad news for us — and sad news for the local people. Not only has their island and their homes been destroyed but now the resort where they used to work has been closed. Hard times 🙁

The island has begun a long process of rebuilding after the storm, but they are in desperate need of help. Water, food and medicine and rebuilding equipment all cost money. We are told that the best thing we can do to help St Maarten is to send financial aid.

The Netherlands has been providing a lot of aid to the island and to other countries Dutch Red Cross has opened a special account to raise funds for other services. If you can manage a Dutch website you can submit here.

Globalgiving.org’s Hurricane Irma Relief Fund they accept online donations and their website is in English.
