World’s largest cryptocurrency-only online poker site CoinPoker is gearing up for its Summer Showdown Series. Running from July 14 to 23, this series consists of 30 events with guaranteed prize pools adding up to $140,000.

Summer Showdown Details
As is always the case at CoinPoker, the buyins in the Summer Showdown are listed in the crypto coin Tether (USDT or ₮), and this is the same currency in which winnings are paid too. Fortunately for crypto and poker fans, the value of Tether is tied 1:1 with the U.S. dollar. This makes it easy to know how much you’re losing or winning without performing any arduous calculations.
Every day over the 10 days of the series, there are three tournaments. They’re scheduled for 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Eastern Time. In general, the buyins increase the later in the day we go although there are exceptions to this trend.
Though most of the events are for NL Hold’em, there’s a healthy smattering of PLO and 5 Card PLO throughout the schedule. Some of the tournaments are freezeouts, but many are rebuys, and a fair number are progressive knockouts. Buyins range from ₮0.50 up to ₮500 while the guarantees start as low as ₮100 and climb up to ₮50,000.
The number of events and prize money at stake are fairly modest especially when compared to large series, like the Online Super Series and Black Diamond Poker Openhosted by competitors. Yet, the low-key nature of the Summer Showdown is likely one of its strengths. It’s actually possible for a single person to enjoy every event on the roster without committing too much or his or her time or bankroll.
Extra Prizes up for Grabs
Beyond the guaranteed prize money, each tourney also has extra value of between ₮10 and ₮500 added. You see, everyone who registers for a Summer Showdown tournament will be entered into a drawing for between one and five tournament tickets depending on the specific tournament. These tickets are valid for entry into events in the upcoming Crypto Series of Online Poker (CSOP) or satellite tournaments.
Main Event and Satellites
The Main Event of the Summer Showdown Series will take place on Sunday, July 23 at 3:00 p.m. It is the last tournament of the series. It costs ₮500 to join and will distribute at least ₮50,000 in prizes along with one randomly awarded ₮500 ticket to a CSOP event. Unusually for a tournament of this type, there are unlimited rebuys allowed during the first 11 blind levels.
CoinPoker is aware that $500 is a lot to pay to enter a tournament, and for this reason, it has decided to offer numerous satellites permitting users to win their seats for less.
By progressing through a series of three levels of step tournaments, you can secure your ₮500 tickets. The buyins for the three steps are ₮0.25, ₮2.50, and ₮25. If you don’t have time for steps and would rather enter direct qualifiers, then you have the option to do so in satellites costing ₮25 and ₮50 to register for.
Notable Events
Besides the Main Event, there are a number of interesting tournaments in the Summer Showdown that you might want to keep your eye on:
Sunday, July 16, 3 p.m. ET; ₮200-buyin Sunday Special Rebuy; ₮35,000 Guaranteed
This tournament replaces the normal Sunday Special at CoinPoker and comes with a decent ₮5,000 bump to the normal guarantee. Besides the Main Event, this is the largest guarantee in the Summer Showdown Series. What’s more, there’s a ₮500 CSOP ticket up for grabs.
Sunday, July 20, 3pm ET; ₮30-buy NoMercy R&A Special; ₮3,000 Guaranteed
A fairly normal tournament with an average guarantee, what makes this tourney special is the presence of Isabelle “NoMercy” Mercier. Whoever manages to knock her out after the rebuy period has expired will win a nice ₮100 bounty. Moreover, a ₮150 tournament ticket will be distributed via random drawing of all entrants.
Sunday, July 23, 2 p.m. ET; ₮100-buyin PLO Rebuy; ₮3,000 Guaranteed
The biggest Omaha event on the roster, this is a rebuy, so the chips will be flying fast and furious. It begins just before the Main Event, so this is a fine addition to your schedule if you’re planning on playing the big game. There’s a ₮200 ticket that will be awarded to a lucky participant.
Compete in the Monthly Leaderboard at the Same Time
Each month CoinPoker runs a ₮15,000 leaderboard for its MTT players, and when you compete in the Summer Showdown, you’ll be automatically earning points toward it. There’s no opt-in or additional payment required. The points granted for a particular tournament depend upon the buyin amount, the field size, and a player’s final position in the tournament.
The top prize consists of ₮1,000 in cash, one ₮500 CSOP Main Event ticket, and three ₮200 tourney tickets. In total, 150 individuals collect a prize from this leaderboard each month.
